I am an unapologetic geek-girl. I have a deep and abiding love for all things Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Hero & geek-tastic. One of the best TV shows ever was the axed-bef0re-its-time Firefly. I am still passionate about that show, and its follow-up movie, Serenity.
One of my favorite moments is at the end, where Mal (the captain) is sitting in the bridge/cockpit of the ship with one of his crew. It’s raining as they’re taking off, and they have the following interchange which always struck me as beautiful for so many reasons (not simply movie-related):
“You know what the first rule of flying is? Well, I suppose you do, since you already know what I’m about to say.”
“I do. But I like to hear you say it.”
“Love. You can learn all the math in the ‘verse, but you take a boat in the air you don’t love, she’ll shake you off just as sure as the turning of worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tells you she’s hurting ‘fore she keens. Makes her a home.”
“….. Storm’s getting worse.”
“We’ll pass through it soon enough.”
Just a little bit of beauty to brighten your day, my lovelies.
